Calming the Mind

Picture
The mind is made tranquil by practice and non-attachment.
- Yoga Sutras 1.12

Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras is an ancient yogic text that guides you to an experience of profound grounding in who you really are.

In sutra 1.2, Patanjali defines yoga as the experience of peace and oneness that comes when the stream of thoughts in the mind subsides. Easier said than done! So, sutra 1.12 tells how: To experience quiet in the mind you must practice and release attachment to desires. Effort and surrender. Just as patience is learned by practice, a calm mind is learned by practice. Then, to safeguard your peace of mind, again and again you must release all desires that pull you away from the calm, still Center.
